Tim Russell Knows Winning; Does It Twice In One Weekend
22-Year-Old Wins Goodyear Challenge Race On Night, Pro LM Race Next Night
Even though 22-year-old Tim Russell hasn’t been racing every weekend as of late, when he has been racing, he’s made it count.  A few weeks ago, Russell debuted his brand new Pro Late Model with a solid third-place run with the Goodyear Challenge Late Model Series at USA International Speedway.

This weekend, Russell made that third-place finish of a few weeks ago seem like chump change by winning not once, but twice, on two consecutive nights in the Sunshine State with his #36 Rinnai/Tempaco/Dave Brewer Custom Homes Late Model.
It started when Russell returned to action with the Goodyear Challenge Series for the series’ next race, a 100-lapper at Orlando SpeedWorld (FL) on Friday night.

“We qualified fourth and they drew a seven, so we still started fourth,” said Russell.  “Then, they had a wreck behind us so they had a complete restart.  On that next restart, a guy in front of me broke something on that start and we got caught behind him and when he practically stopped in front of me, I had no where to go and I went back to somewhere around 13th.”

It wasn’t the start that Russell has hoped for, but he wasted little time in getting back in the swing of things over the following 100 laps.

“We started passing cars on the outside and got up to third.  I was able to pass cars on the outside very easily.  We were sitting third and the second-place car and the leader got into it, which then put us into second.  So with about 20 laps to go or so, we were battling it out with the leader.

“He was holding his lead and blocking pretty good, so I got by him on the outside like I had a lot of other guys during the night.  It was pretty cool.   We led the last 15 laps and put a straightaway on them.  The race went pretty good I’d say.”

Russell wasn’t content on just winning one race over Memorial Day weekend, typically one of the businest racing weekend of the year all over the country.

“Since we won, we then decided to go to Bradenton the following night and won there.”
Russell and the Russell Racing team headed to Desoto Super Speedway to compete in the track’s Pro Late Model division and the Turner Tree and Landscape 100.

“We qualified second and started there after there was no invert,” added Russell.  “I got hung up on the outside at that start.  I had no heat in my tires yet, so I got shuffled back to fourth.  Around lap 20, we were back to second.  Then the leader broke and that put us in the lead and we had almost about the whole field a lap down by the end of the race.

“We ran 75 laps of green at the end, so it went really well.  I don’t think I could have asked for much better of a weekend.  Now, we are going to work hard on trying to get our Super Late Model done and continue running races with this Pro Late Model and trying to win as many races as we can.”
Tim won with the same car he ran at Lakeland earlier this year.
Up next for Russell is the next Goodyear Challenge Series race, set for June 18th at Bronson Motor Speedway (FL).

“We are hoping to have the Super Late Model ready to go for the July 13th race at USA International Speedway.”
