A Pole, a Win and a New Website Has Tim Russell Looking Good
22-Year-Old Is On A Roll, Wins Fifth Race in Last Eight Starts
A racecar driver wants to win every single race he or she enters.  And right now, that is about the only way things could get any better for 22-year-old Tim Russell. The Florida youngster knows that winning every race is pretty much a pipe dream, that dumb luck and just plain ol’ off nights will catch up to you sooner or later.  In the meantime, Russell is enjoying his continued winning ways in the Late Model world of Florida.

This past Saturday, Russell returned to action behind the wheel of his #36 Rinnai/Tempaco/Dave Brewer Custom Homes Late Model for the Goodyear Challenge Series 100-lap race at Columbia Motorsports Park.  Just last month, Russell won the pole and finished second in his first trip to the half-mile.  This time around, he matched those efforts, and improved one better in the finish column as well.
Russell dominated the 100-lap race.  He set fast time, started third following an invert and then pulled away for the victory.

“We had a good car all weekend.  We were one of the top-three or four cars in practice,” said Russell.  “The track changed a bunch from the last time we were there, so we worked on the car all weekend and we got it to where we liked.  We went out there and qualified on the pole and drew a three, so we started third.

“I decided to let the guys on the front row fall in where they would fall in and then make my moves.  We got the lead pretty early and led most of the race.  Late in the event, another car had a run on us and we made a little bit of contact.  Luckily, we didn’t wreck, but unfortunately, he spun out to stay off of us.  Other than that, we weren’t really challenged.”
Something we are getting used to seeing... Tim Russell in Victory Lane.  Here, he visits Lake City's vlane this Saturday.
It was Russell’s sixth overall win of the season, and fifth in his last eight starts.  What is the reason for his recent hot streak?  He attributes it to a simple, three letter word… fun.

“We have just been working hard at the shop and having fun.  That is the main thing, having fun at what you are doing.  If we can continue that, then we can keep this roll that we are on going for a while I hope.”

Another word he attributes it to is “learning.”

“You just have to take those races where ‘you’ve got what you’ve got,’ like the last race where we finished fourth, and build on them.  You can’t expect to win every race, but you need to build on each race.  That is what we are doing.”
This was the fourth different track Russell has been victorious at in 2005.  He’s now won races at New Smyrna Speedway, Desoto Super Speedway, Orlando Speedworld and Columbia Motorsports Park.

“We are going out there and working on getting the lines down at each track, then adjusting the car to suit the line I like, rather than adjusting the car and me working with it.  We have a pretty good baseline now at most tracks.  We are getting the car to be balanced so well that we do not have to change it much at each track.  That is making things easier.  The guys are giving me a great car to drive and I just have to do the best I can.”

In addition to his successes on the track, Russell is also excelling off the track.  Just recently, he and his team debuted a new website, designed and developed by 51 Sports.  The site, which features info on Tim, his race schedule and results and lots of other cool information, is one of the most unique looking of any driver websites on the internet.
“I love it and so do my sponsors,” explained Tim.  “It’s just really cool looking and I hope the fans enjoy it as well.”

Tim’s plans for his next race are still up in the air.  The team is contemplating a race the first weekend in October, but they are certain that they will make an all-out assault at Seafest on October 6-8 at Desoto Super Speedway in Bradenton, FL.
