Tim Russell Dominates Seafest With Another Pole & Another Victory
22-Year-Old Earns Seventh Win of 2005 Season
People just keep asking young Tim Russell how things can get any better. And he keeps telling them the same thing.
“Just keep winning,” is what Russell tells those who ask. But when you are already winning nearly 45 percent of the races that you are entering, and then finishing in the top five in 80 percent of those, it is hard to get any better.
Russell continued his impressive 2005 season on Saturday night during Seafest at Desoto Super Speedway in Bradenton, FL. Russell dominated the Pro Late Model portion of the three-day event, grabbing the pole and the 125-lap race victory. It was Russell’s fourth win of the season at the 3/8-mile oval.
“We had an awesome weekend,” said the 22-year-old Russell. “We went out there, set fast time, and they pulled a four, this time, inverting the first four rows. We worked our way to the front and took the lead around the 30th lap. We led from there on. We had a really strong car. We worked really hard all week long to get the car ready and it all paid off during the event.
Overall, it was Russell’s seventh win in just 15 starts in the #36 Rinnai/Tempaco/Dave Brewer Custom Homes Late Model this season. He’s also made one start in his Super Late Model, which resulted in a second-place finish.
In all, he’s earned seven wins, four poles and 13 top-five finishes in just 16 starts in 2005. It is an impressive record that is unmatched in his young career.
“I couldn’t tell you when I’ve had a season like this,” said Russell. “Maybe sometime during my quarter-midget days. I’m just not sure. For sure, I’ve never had a year like this since I’ve started racing full-size cars.
“It is awesome to go out there every week and feel like you are the best car out there and the car that everyone is gunning for. You just know that everyone is gunning for you. And if you work hard, it can pay off. If you just keep your nose clean, you can run in the top three and if you run in the top three, then you have a chance for the win.”
It has also been big for Russell to win for his team members.
“It feels good to get the win for the guys too. The majority of our guys, the five hardcore guys that are here at the shop every day, put a lot of work into these cars and come to the shop to do about anything that needs to be done, from cleaning the car to putting stickers on the car.”
Russell plans to keep racing his Pro Late Model as the season progresses. He is also planning to run several Super Late Model races later in the year with his newly finished car.
“As of right now, our big debut in that car will be the Governors Cup (at New Smyrna Speedway on November 19). Hopefully, we can get out there and do the same thing in our Super Late Model. I know the wins won’t come as easy, but with our hard work, hopefully we can be a strong contender in that.”
