Second for Russell in Bright House Challenge
Super Late Model 100
After starting 12th in the Bright House Challenge Series Super Late Model 100 at New Smyrna Speedway (FL), Tim Russell brought home a second-place finish in his first start back behind the wheel since the early-January Red Eye 100.
Russell, who spends much of the season working on his Tim Russell, Inc. Driver Development program, has spent much of the early part of the season on the pit box instead of in the driver’s seat coaching up and coming drivers through the late model ranks.
“We’ll take that finish,” said Russell. “Our Barn Light Electric car started the race off really, really loose. When that caution came out, we came in and tightened it up a little bit and I had to make a few adjustments in the car with the brakes.
“But we missed a couple wrecks and the car was good,” said Russell. “Nasse (winner), I thought he might be trying to hold me up, I’m sure he was just riding but I’ll take second. Those guys have been racing the last couple months and without us racing, unfortunately, for the past couple months I’ll take a second. We’ve definitely got some momentum now that we can build on.”
With the unpredictable schedule of his TRI Driver Development, Russell is unsure of when he will be back behind the wheel of the Barn Light Electric No. 36 Super Late Model but hopes to make it back out for the bigger shows throughout the 2014 season.
“I have no idea when we’ll get to run it again,” said Russell. “I’m just going to try to run the big races. I’ve got another kid coming and testing a Pro Late Model in a few weeks. But if we can keep those cars together without wrecking them, then we can race.”
