Tim Russell Wins Marion Edwards Memorial 100
at New Smyrna Speedway
For Tim Russell the Marion Edwards Memorial was telling the rest of the east coast of Florida that the 36 team has no plans to let any races get away from them down the stretch as 2013 draws to a close. Russell scored the win in the 100-lap Super Late Model race after setting fast time, which is the final event before annual Governor's Cup 200.
"It's really cool to get a win," said Russell. "Our whole Barn Light Electric team has been working hard the last couple of weeks to get this car ready to race here at New Smyrna. "We had a good lap in qualifying and we have a few things to work on during the long runs, but I think we can have that worked out for the Governor's Cup."
Russell has been out of the seat most of the season as he is serving as the driver coach for the house cars for TRI Driver Development. Now as the season comes to a close he looks to get his car right for the upcoming Governor's Cup.
"We are looking forward to the big race," said Russell. "There are already a bunch of cars entered at this point. I think a total of 35 or something. JEGS has come on board and put in some money to help make it a big show for us locals and all the guys who come out of town."
Tim Russell will be back behind the wheel at the $10,000 48th Annual Florida Governor's Cup 200 at New Smyrna Speedway (FL). Russell is a former winner having taken home the trophy in 2009. That year he becomes one of only two father-son tandems to win the race. Tim's dad David won the race in 1995. They joined DIck and Wayne Anderson who have won a combined five times.
