You can’t put into words what the 2010 season has been like for Tim Russell and his #36 Insurance Offices of America race team. After a sluggish start, things have been absolutely perfect in the last several weeks with five victories coming in Russell’s last five starts in the Florida Super Late Model racing world.
The most recent triumph came on Saturday night at Desoto Super Speedway (FL) as Russell continued his dominance in the Hoosier Elite Series with his third victory at the track in as many starts. Russell started third and took the lead around lap nine and easily scored the victory.
“This just shows the type of dedication our team has,” said Russell. “We have won plenty of races over the years, but to rattle off five straight is a big accomplishment. Our guys who work on this car have really been rewarded with all of our recent success. We started third at Desoto and took the lead real early in the race. I really just had to hit my marks and nail the restarts and it was another trip to victory lane.”
Russell has a commanding lead in the Hoosier Elite Series point standings although he looks more to score victories then chase points titles. He won the last two Sunbelt Super Late Model titles and now he’s looking shy away from points racing to be able to pick and choose tracks all across the Southeast.
“We might run for the championship, but right now we just want to win races,” said Russell. “We are looking to plan some trips away from our home state of Florida and race in some bigger events later in the season.”
Russell will return to action at Auburndale Speedway (FL) on Saturday, May 22nd as he goes to extend his streak to six. In his only other trip to Auburndale this season, Russell went to victory lane.
