Tim Russell Wins Icebreaker 100 at Desoto Super Speedway
Florida Late Model Standout Rebounds After Speedweeks Problems
You can measure the strength of an athlete’s determination on how quickly they can pick himself up after a letdown.  Tim Russell showed just how determined he is when he went from an emotional low to an emotional high in just a matter of days on the Florida Late Model racing scene.

Russell wrecked out of the Pete Orr Memorial 100 last Saturday night at New Smyrna Speedway (FL).  For Russell, it was the second car that he had banged up in three nights and a trip to the Icebreaker 100 at Desoto Super Speedway (FL) looked to be impossible. Not only did the Russell crew get the car back together to race this past weekend though, they also excelled at the event - where they won the pole, started third and dominated the race to walk away with the victory.

“That thing was fast right off the trailer,” said Russell.  “The guys worked hard all week putting this one back together.  We had to put a new nose on it from Speedweeks.  We went out in qualifying on Saturday and we put it on the pole and took an invert of three.  I think we took the lead at lap 22 and led on from there to the win.  I mean all the guys worked hard and the Insurance Offices of America Chevy was fast all weekend, it’s great to rebound like that.”

Russell held off a star-studded field that included the likes of Jeff Choquette, Justin Larson, Stephen Nasse and race runner-up Anthony Campi.  It was extra special not only to race, but also to be able to reward the crewmembers who have spent countless hours working on his IOA Chevy.

“The biggest thing is to get out of the car and see all of the smiles of the guys that work on your team who have been putting all of the effort into everything.  It’s definitely fun for me when they give me a car that fast, it makes it easy and fun to drive. “

Russell will return to Desoto for another Late Model event on March 13th as plans for the rest of the 2010 season are up in the air at the current moment.
