Tim Russell finished fourth in this past weekend's Super Late Model event at Auburndale Speedway (FL). That is a result that many teams would be thrilled with, but remarkably it was Russell's worst finish of the season at the track.
Russell's season of dominance at Auburndale includes three victories and a third-place result. Another victory could have been within his reach on Saturday night as well until problems cropped up.
“We had a good car, but we didn't get the result that we wanted,” said Russell. “We qualified first and had to start on the outside. It's tough out there, but we got back up to second place. With 10 laps to go, my brakes started to fade and I just held on. Coming off two straight wins here, we wanted to win again, but we'll take a top five and continue on.”
Continuing on for Russell means a trip to New Smyrna Speedway (FL) next weekend, where he'll get the final chance to tune-up in a regular race before November's big Governor's Cup show there.
“At New Smyrna this year, we've tried a few new things. Some have worked and some didn't work. This is the last race before the Governor's Cup, so hopefully we're good to go with the car now and can have a good finish.”
Saturday's race at New Smyrna will be part of the Bright House Challenge Series for Super Late Models.
