The state of Florida is a big and filled with all types of exciting race tracks. Tim Russell knows this and felt he could stand sitting at home and not get out to race at the venues that used to make up the FASCAR Super Late Model Tour just a year ago.
His travels took him to the Desoto Super Speedway (FL) for the Hoosier Elite Series 75-lap event. It was just like old times as Russell rocketed to the front and scored the win, much like his days with FASCAR.
“We took the lead around lap 40 and never looked back,” said Russell. “It had been two and a half years since we had been down there, so it was really good for us to run strong there. We had won a bunch of races in the Late Models, but this was our first Super Late Model win at Desoto.”
Russell started seventh and worked his way up to second by the 15th lap. He then rode in line to save his stuff for the later stages of the race. He admitted after the race that even once he got the lead, he wasn’t going all out.
“It was good for us to go down there and get a win like that,” said Russell. “We will be racing there again in a few weeks, so that gives us a lot of confidence going into that race.”
Russell will return to action on Saturday, October 10th for 100-lap Seafest event at Desoto Super Speedway (FL).
