Tim Russell and his #36 team marched out of their home state of Florida to tackle The Rattler at South Alabama Speedway this past weekend. It looked like Russell might have a good shot at bringing home a trophy too, after qualifying sixth and running strong early in the event.
However, Russell's day ended early when he got caught in a mid-race wreck. He would eventually be credited with a 19th-place finish.
“We knew it was a long race, so we just fell into our spot and ran where we needed to be,” said Russell. “We were just riding until we got our pit stops out of the way. Then we started to work our way back to the front. A couple of cars got together in front of me and I checked up, but the guy behind me never slowed down and he plowed into the back of us.
"We still didn't hit anything until the #31 rolled back down the track and clobbered us. We were done after that. I hate it for all my guys they worked hard all week. It would have been a good solid finish, maybe a top five run.”
