Tim Russell Keeps on Running Strong in the Gator State
2007 Sunbelt Super Late Model Champion Gearing Up for Another Title Run
Tim Russell has had a strong season racing Super Late Models in Florida.  A total of five wins already in 2008 has the Lake Mary, Florida, driver wanting more.  He easily won the Sunbelt Super Late Model Series championship in 2007, and is already pushing to repeat as champion in 2008.  Russell helped out his cause by finishing second in the most recent race at Columbia Motorsports Park.

“Wayne Anderson had a real strong car, and I believe that we had a car just as good as his in the first half of the race,” said Russell.  “Towards the end of the last 30 laps, our car just wasn’t as good as it needed to be.  All in all, it was a good weekend for us… a solid top-five finish.”

Tim Russell will be back in action on October 11th at New Smyrna Speedway (FL).  The event will be a combination event between the Sunbelt Super Late Model Series and the Bright House Challenge Series.

With the result, Russell moves into second place in the Sunbelt Series standings.  The next few weeks will come quickly, as Russell will run five races in seven weeks.  He will have a shot to win the Sunbelt Series Championship, the Sunbelt Triple Crown and the Bright House Challenge Series.  He currently leads the overall points in the Bright House Series.

“We are not too concerned about the points at this point,” added Russell.  “We just want to get back into victory lane.  If we do that and do everything right, then the points will take car of themselves.  We are still trying to get these new tires figured out.  We’re gaining ground on them, and the next race I think we are going to be pretty strong.”

Russell has five wins in 19 starts this season.  He has also racked up 16 top-five finishes and 17 top-ten finishes.  The numbers are strong compared to 2007; last year he had 19 top-five finishes on his way to both the Sunbelt Series Championship and the Sunbelt Series Triple Crown.

“We have had some strong runs and a little bit of bad luck,” added Russell.  “Mother Nature hasn’t been very nice to us this year.  We look forward to these next couple of months of racing.  Hopefully we can rack up a few more wins and try to be a contender for the title at the end of the year.”
