FIRST LAP INCIDENT AT LAKELAND SIDELINES RUSSELL
Talented Driver Set Fast Time But Night Ends Early
Tim Russell’s weekend at USA International Speedway started out just like it should, with the No. 36 Rinnai Machine fast and up front.  Russell set fast time for the Sunbelt Series event and look poised to be in position to pull a repeat of his last trip to the track, which included a trip to victory lane.
We set fast time, had a dominant car in practice all weekend,” said Russell.  “It looked like we were on our way to winning another race.  I ended up drawing a seven after the redraw.  I had a fast car so I figured I would take my time getting up to the front.”

Sometimes, even on the first lap, ‘the big one’ can happen in racing, as was the case for Russell and many others in the field Saturday night at Lakeland.

“People were being impatient, and thinking that they could win the race on the first lap.  I locked up my brakes to avoid running into the people in front of me and ended up getting hit from behind.  The damage was pretty bad, it knocked the front clip off, so were done.  We ended up being scored 26th.”

“It’s a shame.  I feel really bad for the guys at the shop.  They had worked hard all weekend, and gave me an awesome car.  We will just head back to the shop, rebuild and try and get them next time.”

Tim Russell will be back in racing action June 21, 2008 when the Sunbelt Series heads to Columbia Motorsports Park (FL).  Stay tuned to timrussellonline.com for all the latest news and updates.
