Tim Russell was wearing some new colors this week as he headed to New Smyrna Speedway (FL) for the annual Clyde Hart Memorial. His car was decked in the colors of the charity, the Children’s Miracle Network and Russell and his team had their hearts set on putting on a good performance for the charity. And that they did by finishing second.
Russell was able to put his Children’s Miracle Network machine up front, scoring his eighth pole position of the year. But, as in racing, sometimes things happen. Russell had to start the race from the back of the pack.
“This was a great weekend for us,” said Russell. “We had a charity with us, so we wanted to do great for them. We were good in practice, and went out and put our car on the pole, but then the officials decided that they didn’t like something on our car so we ended up having to start from the rear and add some weight to it.”
That didn’t stop Russell as he ran up through the field to the runner-up position by the checkered flag.
“We had to start 22nd, but we were able to work our way up to the second spot,” added Russell. “By the time I was able to work my way up there the car had become so tight that I wasn’t able to do anything with the leader. Had we started from our original starting spot, it could have been a totally different outcome, but second is better than nothing and it was great to have a good run for the Children Miracle’s Network.”
