Tim Russell’s Streak Continues at New Smyrna Speedway
Russell Dominates at Brighthouse Challenge Series Event
To say that Tim Russell is on a hot streak would be an understatement. For the third race weekend in a row, and the third time this year at New Smyrna Speedway, Russell found himself standing in a very familiar spot, victory lane. This time he was the victor Saturday night at the famed Florida racetrack in race number-2 of the Brighthouse Challenge Series for Super Late Models.
“It was an awesome race,” said Russell. “The whole Rinnai team gave me an awesome car. They had been working on it really hard this whole past week back at the shop.
“From the start of practice it drove really well and we were able to put it out on the pole during qualifying. With the luck of the draw, I drew low lucky number 7 and so we had a little challenge for us to try and get up front.”
The challenge didn’t deter Russell and it didn’t take long for him to work his way up to the front of the Brighthouse Challenge Series 50-lap event. The key to his success this past weekend was patience.
“I’m hoping that next week that we can make it four wins in a row and also make it two wins in two weeks at New Smyrna,” added Russell. “I’m excited to head right back there. Any track that you win on is going to be one of your favorite tracks and New Smyrna is a blast to run on. There are two lanes that you can race in so you can find what works for you and have a blast out there on the track.”
Tim Russell will be back in action this Saturday, April 26, 2008 at New Smyrna Speedway when the Sunbelt Series heads to New Smyrna Speedway.

Within the first ten laps, a fast Russell had found his way back up to the front.
“I got boxed in at first, but I knew I just had to be patient and the caution came out pretty quick, so we restarted single file. I was able to pass a couple of cars and we were able to get up front. After we did that we just put it in ride mode, trying to learn as much as we can about the track. That track changes from week to week with that new asphalt so we were just trying to get our stuff ready for the long run when we head back next week for the Sunbelt Series race.”
Tim will have the opportunity to make it a total of four wins in a row, when he heads back to New Smyrna Speedway Saturday night for the Sunbelt Series event.

“At the start, I knew we just had to be patient. (Jeff) Choquette had qualified second, and was starting sixth after the draw and he was driving like a mad man to get to the front. It was a battle between me and him; whoever got to the front of the pack first was going to have the car to beat.”
