Tim Russell has had several things on his mind all season long. One of those was win races. He can mark that one off his list. Second, was win championships. There goes another one as Tim Russell finished second in the latest Brighthouse Challenge event at New Smyrna Speedway and was able to clinch the 2007 Brighthouse Challenge Series Champion.
“It was a great weekend for us,” said Russell. “We had a great car. It was stout all day in practice and then we went and put it out on the pole. We drew q three for the inversion and got held up a little bit on the start. We got spread out a little bit and we were able to get up to second.
“We were just as good as the leader, but there were just some long green flag runs
and we weren’t able to run him down after we got held up with our cars running the
same speeds. All in all it is a good weekend, and to wrap up the Brighthouse
Challenge Series championships was pretty awesome.”
This isn’t Russell’s first championship of year, it would be his third. He already
claimed the Florida State Super Late Model Championship earlier this year, as
well as the Triple Crown Championship. So now that he he already has three
under his belt, and as long as he shows up next week to the governor’s cup
event at New Smyrna Speedway, which his the final Sunbelt Series points race,
he will claim another Championship to wrap up his 2007 season.
Four championships in one year is pretty impressive for any driver, but Tim
wants even more than the championship. He has his sights set on bringing
home the victory in the Governors’s Cup at New Smyrna Speedway.
“Everything that we have done this year has been awesome,” added Russell.
“We have a great team, and week in and week out we make things happen.
Now we just need to head to New Smyrna, and finish out the Sunbelt Series
with a win, that’s our main goal this weekend.
Tim Russell will be back in action this Saturday November 17, 2007 at New Smyrna Speedway for the Governor’s Cup.
