While the other Super Late Model drivers were getting a few races under their belts on the new surface, Tim Russell was over at the Daytona International Speedway running in the season opener for the ARCA RE/MAX Series.
A hard wreck in the ARCA event delayed his New Smyrna Speedweeks start a few days as he made sure he was feeling good enough to race after being shaken up in the ARCA crash.
"I am alright now," said Russell. "The first night my neck was sore, but other than that I am alright. I am completely healed now. I've got to thank God, the soft walls and the HANS device, otherwise I would not be here right now."
Russell methodically worked his way through the field in the 25-lap race Tuesday night at New Smyrna, driving to the top-five by halfway. Towards the later stages of the race, he worked his way by Jesus Hernandez into second place, which is where he finished.
"The car was real good," said Russell. My guys worked hard all week. I got me a good car to drive and started off the first night with a second.
