This weekend, Tim Russell will race in one of the most important races in his career, and this one isn’t all about the glory. It’s about being there for a friend’s family and honoring someone special as he along with his teammate, Cecil Williams’ son Patrick Williams, will compete in the Cecil Williams Memorial at Columbia Motorsports Park this weekend.
“I think we should have some good weather this weekend for the Cecil
Williams Memorial,” said Russell. “I think that we should have a fast
car for this weekend and I hope we are able to run good for Patrick and
the rest of the Williams family.
“We have had a couple of really good runs here lately and I think that we
are due for a win. We will have two cars there, with Patrick Williams
running our other one. The guys have been in the shop all week
working hard to make sure that we have two rocket ships under us
so that we can both be up front and contending, hopefully we will be
able to come home one-two.”
So far this season, Russell has made one start at the track back in
the spring and he was able to bring home a third place finish. This
time around, he hopes to be able to better it by a few spots and bring home the win for the Williams family.
“It’s a blast to run on. It can get a little dark but once you get used to it, it’s no problem at all. It’s a fast track and it’s usually a really good show of racing out there for both the competitors and the fans.
“To win this race would be big, for us and for Patrick and his family. The whole thing is for them. It would be special to win the first ever Cecil Williams memorial. Hopefully all the cards will fall in place and both Patrick and I will be up front at the end of the race.”
The Cecil Williams Memorial will get underway this Saturday October 13, 2007 at Columbia Motorsports Park.
