Russell Comes Home Second in Brighthouse Event; Looks Toward the Fourth
Tim Russell just can’t be stopped. It doesn’t matter whether the young driver takes a few weeks off or not, once he is back in that Rinnai Dodge, he is a man on fire.
He was able to prove that yet again this weekend, bringing home a second place finish in the latest Brighthouse Challenge Series event at New Smyrna Speedway.
“We finished second, but we wanted to win,” said Russell. “We were trying a few different things, some things that we would rather try in the 50-lapper rather than the 125-lapper and they didn’t work, because we didn’t win. Other than that it was a good second place finish, a good points day and a good warm-up for Clyde Hart.
“Hopefully we will be able to improve on that run Saturday night and put it to good use come Wednesday night for the Clyde Hart Memorial.”
A second place run is impressive, and has been a fixture of Russell’s 2007 season. It’s even more impressive when you are contending for a championship just as Russell is doing in his quest to claim the 2007 Brighthouse Challenge Series Championship. Second is a good points day by any stretch of the means, but what Russell has his sights set on now is being able to defend himself as the Clyde Hart Memorial winner as he heads back to New Smyrna Speedway on Wednesday to try and do just that.
“Wednesday is an important day,” added Russell. “Going in as the defending race winner means a lot, and it means a lot to the Hart family to win the race. Robert (Hart), Clyde and my dad all go way back, and Robert is a good friend of the family. It means a lot to win the race for them. And I was glad to do it last year, and I really hope that we will be able to repeat and do it again this year.”
Tim Russell will get his chance this Wednesday, the Fourth of July at New Smyrna Speedway where Tim will try and defend his title as the champion of the Clyde Hart Memorial.
