Tim Russell Toughs It Out for 14th at New Smyrna
Young Driver Turns a Bad Night Into a Solid Finish
Tim Russell has been impressive all season long, bringing home wins and top-fives on a regular basis.  Now, after recording a 14th-place finish at New Smyrna Speedway (FL), Russell has proved that no matter how good he or his team perform, there is no accounting for bad luck.

“We had a good shot at winning,” said Russell.  “We were just riding for a little while, trying to save our stuff.  I just got tired of waiting around on the bottom so I went by some cars on the outside. It really showed how strong our car was. I was going to get out front, try to stretch it out and ride, and save our stuff for the end.”

Unfortunately for Russell, his strong car and potential win was soon thwarted by bad luck.

“We had a real strong car tonight.  We showed that. We were able to go from third to the lead on the outside, passing both [second place and third place]. The guys did an awesome job with the car. Just unfortunate luck.  Somebody broke a motor or lost some water or something in front of us. We went to slow up and got spun around in it. That was it. It was a bad night for the whole Rinnai team but we’ll move on and be ready to go to the next race.

Russell isn’t going to let a little bad luck get him down though.

“It’s a little frustrating but you’ll have those races,” added Russell.  “We’ll just go back and get everything fixed, regroup and we’ll come back strong and get some more wins this year.

Russell’s next chance for victory will come this Saturday May 5th as he heads to DeSoto Super Speedway for the All American Challenge Series event.
