Triple Crown Could Mean Triple Wins for Tim Russell
23-year-old to Try and Claim Florida’s SLM Triple Crown
Tim Russell hasn’t had any problems running double headers during the 2006 racing season.  In fact, he was able to get a solid finish in an ARCA RE/MAX race at Kansas Speedway and then, less than 24 hours after that, come back to Florida and win the Clyde Hart Memorial.
Next up for Tim is the Triple Crown Weekend, one of Florida’s largest Super Late Model events.  He will have three chances in the span of 72 hours to bring home his next victory.

“I am really looking forward to this weekend,” said Russell.  “Hopefully we can have some good runs. We have been running decent all season, but we aren’t up to par where we want to be or where we were last year at this time.   I know it would be hard to be as dominant as we were last year, but if we get some stuff turned around, I think we should have a pretty good shot at bringing home the wins.  We will just keep working hard at that.

“The double weekends are a lot of fun and if I had my choice, I would be racing every day.  Last year we did a couple of the double weekends and we would end up winning Friday and Saturday night, so maybe we can bring back some of that luck from last year and the little bit of luck we have had with the doubles.  I am just really looking forward to this upcoming weekend.”

Tim has had experience on all of the tracks included in the Triple Crown Weekend.  During the 2005 season he brought home many wins at DeSoto SuperSpeedway in the Limited Late Model division.  He has yet to win at Bronson or Ocala but he thinks that this may be the weekend where that happens.

“Last time we went to Ocala, we were one of the fastest cars, if not the fastest car, and unfortunately the weather didn’t hold up and it rained out on us the next day.  I am really looking forward to going back there and hope to be in contention for a good run there.”

Similar luck struck Russell at Bronson.

“I have been to Bronson Motor Speedway once before and we were 3/10th faster than the field and then that one ended up raining out, too.  The rain just needs to stay away.  The main thing at Bronson is that you just have to be smart to stay out of trouble because it is so small.”

Three wins would make for the ultimate weekend for Russell.

“If I had to choose, I would say I want to win Ocala the most.  It is such a unique track and hard to get around, but I would like to win them all.  That’s my goal.”
Tim is looking to be in victory lane again this weekend.
The Triple Crown Weekend will get underway next weekend October 20th-22nd with events at DeSoto SuperSpeedway, Bronson Motor Speedway and Ocala Speedway.
