Tim Russell hasn’t been racing Super Late Models for very long, but he already has accomplished victory in one of the biggest races of the year in the state of Florida. After taking the checkered flag of the Clyde Hart Memorial, he is now heading down to USA International Speedway for the Florida State Championships. There he will compete with some of the very best Super Late Model drivers around.
“I’m ready to go,” said Russell. “The last time we were at that track we finished fifth. Hopefully we will be able to better it this time with a win.
This weekend’s show is a 200 lap event, giving the drivers and teams plenty of laps to figure out their car and to try and avoid trouble.
“I like the longer races,” added Russell. “It gives you more time to take things carefully and change your line and make adjustments on the car during the pit stops so you don’t have to try and get everything perfect right at the start.
“It would mean a lot to win the Florida State Championship. The Clyde Hart Memorial was a huge win and if we could win two of the biggest races in Florida that would be great.”
The 8th Annual Florida State Late Model Championships will get underway at 7:30 pm on Saturday July 22nd, 2006.
