Tim Russell headed to DeSoto Super Speedway (FL) with high hopes of winning the Super Late Model portion of the track’s annual Seafest event. He was able to dominate the race last year in the Limited Late Model feature and looked poised to bring home another trophy from the track, but a caution filled race had him settle for a top-10 finish.
“We had a really good car,” said Russell. “Qualifying was just so tight at DeSoto. We weren’t that far off the pole at all but we ended up starting seventh. The track was really slick and hard to pass. At the beginning we were decent and trying to work our way up through the field. We were going door to door for fifth when the last caution came out. They put us back to sixth and that is where we finished the race.”
While Tim was not able to bring home the win for the second year in a row he gained some more invaluable experience on the track that should help to prepare him on his next venture, which will come in two weeks during Triple Crown weekend.
“It was a good test for the Triple Crown coming up,” added Russell. “I think that we should be a lot better when we come back for that. Hopefully we can roll with it and bring home the win.”
